Facebook users who mocked a fugitive drug dealer’s ‘receding hairline’ have been warned they could be prosecuted for bullying. 

Gwent Police released a mugshot of Jermaine Taylor, 21, from Newport, south east Wales on Wednesday as he wanted on recall to prison.  

But their appeal for help in finding him was met with facetious comments, with many choosing to use the opportunity for a joke. 

Lea Hook wrote: ‘He was last seen in town; Police are combing the area.’ While Matt Price said: ‘Push his release date back further than his hair line, that should teach him.’

Similarly amused, Arron Bevin said: ‘Yo. That hairline goes further back than Woolworths.’

And another wrote: ‘The local constabulary are thin on leads.’ Simon Townend said: ‘You need to re trace his steps with a fine tooth comb. And then please give it back to him.’ 

Others also made puns on the police search, with Lyndsey Skinner saying: ‘How fast was he on the run? G force has taken his hair.’

And Lawrie Hillman said: ‘He’s vanished into thin hair. He’s neither here nor hair.’ CJ Forde chose to make a political joke, saying: ‘That hairline been pushed back more times than Brexit.’

But after the barage of comments, with some 80,000 now having been left, Gwent Police said: ‘Please remember that harassing, threatening and abusing people on social media can be against the law. 

‘Our advice is to be as careful on social media as you would in any other form of communication. 

‘If you say something about someone which is grossly offensive or is of an indecent, obscene or menacing character, then you could be investigated by the police.’ 

Taylor received a 3 year sentence for being concerned in supplying controlled drugs (cocaine) after being sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court on September 4, 2017.     

He is wanted for breaching his licence conditions after being released from prison on December 10, 2018.
