Family demand dog is euthanized after toddler is attacked

A family from Texas has demanded that a rescue dog be put down after it mauled their two-year-old son at an adoption event in Dallas last Saturday.

The couple from Colleyville say their toddler, Luca Romero, was stroking dogs at the Dallas Pets Alive adoption event when a pit bull-Labrador mix attacked him.

‘It was awful,’ his mother Allis Cho said. ‘It literally dragged him to the ground and would not let go. It was flailing him around.’

Cho has said she wants the dog in question to be put down. ‘What we want is for this dog to be euthanized,’ Alan Romero, his father, said.

‘It was an unprovoked attack. This dog is dangerous. He mauled a little kid and will probably do it again.’

Apparently people were welcome to pet the dogs and Luca had actually been stroking the dog that attacked him – it had initially been friendly.

Cho said Luca loves dogs and is used to playing with their German shepherd.

However, things took a darker turn when Luca was walking back toward the leashed pit bull mix as it jumped up at him and started attacking.

Apparently the dog was very forceful and even sunk its teeth into the boys right arm and chest, refusing to let go.

Cho said ‘Four to five large men had to come in and literally pry the dog off of him.’

‘One of the guys was punching the dog and the dog wouldn’t let go of him. It seemed like forever, but I’m sure it was just a minute or two.’

Alan said the ambulance were called in immediately and his son was rushed to the emergency room at the Children’s Medical Center Dallas.

Luca had to receive several stitches on his arm and chest.

The executive director of the volunteer-based event, Leslie Sans, has refused to comment on what actually happened.

Although she didn’t go into the specifics she did say the rescue agency is investigating the incident in order to prevent it from happening again.

She vehemently said the organization screen tests all of its animals before they are allowed to appear at an adoption event and before they are adopted by people.

Luca’s parents said Luca is doing much better but is still quite scarred from the experience.

The dog is in the middle of a ten-day quarantine period, where it will be examined by Deborah Thorne, a DAS veterinarian, Ed Jamison, director of Dallas Animal Services, said.

The investigation is currently ongoing.
