Family forced out of their living room after giant sink hole opens up

A family have been left with a sink hole in their living room which is filling with water every day.

Alison Evans has to return to her £80,000 home in Trebanog in Perth, Wales, during her working day to pump water from the hole in a bid to stop it flooding the rest of the property.

The 51-year-old claims she has been left with nowhere to turn after the council, builders and water company said the source of the leak could not be located.

Mrs Evans said: ‘The hole has been there from the start of the year. I go to work and I don’t know if there’ll be water all through the house.

‘I have tried everything – the insurance won’t pay out until they know where the water is coming from. No one knows where it’s coming from.’

Ms Evans has resorted to living in other rooms of the house, while all her furniture has been crammed into the dining room.

The factory worker said when the leak was first spotted, water was coming up through the floor in the living room and going through the corridor and dining room.

She said the hole had to be dug so they could try and establish where the leak was coming from.

She added: ‘There are days I have had to come home from work because my husband couldn’t keep up with the water coming through.

‘I come home from work sometimes and I have to get the pump out and I have to open all the windows and doors.

‘It’s not only us, it’s the neighbours as well who can hear everything that’s going on. They know about it but we have no privacy at all – it’s really hard.

‘It’s hard to keep on top of things. Some days I just really want to go to work to have a break from it all.

‘It’s horrendous. I once came home from work and there was water coming through my dining room, the passage and through the kitchen.

‘I need to know who can fix this as I really want my living room back for Christmas, which is my daughter’s 18th birthday, and for my son to live in a normal house.’
