  • The father got into an altercation with a stranger at the 1800 block of W. Mount Houston on Thursday at approximately 9.30pm
  • Suspect pulled out a gun as the argument progressed, at which point the father ran back to his truck and attempted to drive off
  • Gunman opened fire on the truck and caused the fireworks to ignite inside
  • The children inside the vehicle – ages one and two – were seriously burned along with the man
  • They were taken to the Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and are said to be in stable condition 

Texas authorities say a family of four, including two young children, were hospitalized after their firework-filled truck caught fire during a road rage dispute.

Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff’s Department share that the father got into an altercation with a stranger at the 1800 block of W. Mount Houston on Thursday at approximately 9.30pm.

The suspect is said to have pulled out a gun as the argument progressed, at which point the father ran back to his truck and attempted to drive off.

Deputies state that the gunman opened fire on the truck and caused the fireworks to ignite inside.

‘Family had bought fireworks. It is believed gunfire struck the fireworks causing them to ignite,’ Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez explained to KTRK. 

The children inside the vehicle – ages one and two – were seriously burned along with the man, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.

They were taken to the Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and are said to be in stable condition. 

Authorities have described the suspects vehicle as being a light-colored 2016-2018 Ford Explorer. It is believed that a man – who authorities say could ‘possibly’ be black – is said to have fired the gun.
