Family-of-nine who hired an Airbnb for their dead mother’s memorial slam host after they ended up sleeping in their CAR – but it turns out they were actually in the wrong

A family-of-nine who hired an Airbnb for their dead mother’s memorial ended up sleeping in their cars after an unfortunate mix-up.
The Hyde family, including seven adults, a nine-year-old boy and a one-year-old baby, travelled from Brisbane to Western Sydney to spread the ashes of their dead mother.
When they turned up at the property they had booked on Airbnb, their host Sophie said she would also be staying in the house and refused to leave.
The family told A Current Affair that they slept in their cars.
But a closer inspection of the Airbnb clearly shows the house advertising ‘private room in a house’ which means the host or other occupants will also be at the property.

When the family found the four-bedroom home, priced at $868 for six nights, they believed it would be perfect.
They said they were pleased they didn’t have to worry about accommodation so they could focus on the memory of their mother.
But after they arrived at the house Sophie said she would also be staying at the property.
The Hydes claimed Sophie was quite aggressive towards them and would constantly shout.
Airbnb offered the family a full refund, but it would take 10 days for the money to appear in their bank account.
They left the property and decided to spend the night in their cars.

Andrew and his partner, Bella, slept in one car but the other seven family members were worse off.
Dad Roderick, Andrew’s brother, Jesse, his partner, Celina, and their one-year-old baby, Edward, all slept in one car together.
‘It is not ideal for anyone to sleep in their cars, especially with a baby who was getting over a virus,’ Celina said.
And in another car Andrew’s brother, Patrick, his partner, Amy and his nine-year-old son Edward, slept while surrounded with packed items for their trip. packed with items from their trip.
Hostess Sophie (pictured) was confronted by A Current Affair and initially, she denied knowing who the Hyde family were. She changed her tune and said they ‘cancelled and it has nothing to do with me.’
After a few nights sleeping in their cars, the Hyde family were able to stay on the floor in their grandmother’s one-bedroom apartment in a Sydney retirement village.
‘We haven’t been hanging out with family or talking about memories, we’ve just been trying to find somewhere to stay,’ Bella told A Current Affair.
Hostess Sophie was confronted by A Current Affair and initially, she denied knowing who the Hyde family were.
But she quickly changed her tune and said the Hyde family ‘cancelled and it has nothing to do with me’.
She claims Airbnb uploaded the advert to their website for her and said it was their fault it was incorrect.
