In addition to being an acclaimed author, Mr Corris was an academic, journalist, and the former literary editor of The National Times.

‘He was a really positive person, cheerful, unlike most authors. He was humble, not at all full of ego,’ his friend Kathy Gollan told the ABC.

Mr Corris was diagnosed with type one diabetes at the age of 16 and has struggled with the illness since.

He lost his eyesight in the last year, which forced him to stop writing.

“My eyesight, which has been poor for a long time, dropped suddenly and made it just too difficult, too stressful, too painful, really, to write anymore,” he said.

“I can still get around and do most things … but things like writing and reading and so on have just become too difficult.”

The prolific crime writer leaves behind his wife, author Jean Bedford, three daughters, and seven grandchildren.
