Fans believe Reece James asked Cristiano Ronaldo for his shirt DURING Chelsea’s draw at Man United

Fans believe Reece James asked ‘idol’ Cristiano Ronaldo for his shirt DURING Chelsea’s draw at Man United… after footage emerged of Portuguese replying ‘Yeah, no problem’ to something right-back said with his mouth covered

  • Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 17th league goal of the season for Man United
  • Reece James won Man of the Match in Chelsea’s 1-1 stalemate at Old Trafford
  • But fans believe the England right-back asked the Portuguese for his shirt
  • James said in an England Q&A in February he idolises the 37-year-old forward

Fans have taken to Twitter to ask Reece James if he asked Cristiano Ronaldo for his shirt during Chelsea’s 1-1 draw at Manchester United.

The Portugal star cancelled out Marcos Alonso’s opener at Old Trafford with a devastating strike to score his 17th Premier League goal of the season and his 23rd across all competitions.

Blues right-back James meanwhile was named Man of the Match on Thursday and came close to netting a winner for his side with a left-foot effort that cannoned off the post.

But fans believes James was not content with his night’s work simply with his display and asked Ronaldo, 37, for his shirt in the 76th minute of the match.

A video has emerged showing James covering his mouth while appearing to hold a conversation with the former Real Madrid star.

It then appears Ronaldo says: ‘Yeah, no problem,’ back to the 22-year-old England international.

And fans believe the right-back did indeed ask Ronaldo for his shirt, with one posting: ‘@reecejames_24 You asked Cristiano for his shirt,’ followed by some laughter emojis.

Others also noticed the conversation between the pair, with another posting: ‘James was already asking for Ronaldo’s shirt in the 76th minute.’

Another meanwhile saw the funny side of it, saying: ‘Reece James asking #CR7 for his shirt is the highlight of this game.’

James has already revealed that he idolises the five-time Ballon d’Or and Champions League winner in a Q&A while on England duty in February.

Asked which player he would like to play alongside in the history of the game, James replied: ‘Cristiano Ronaldo. Even as a Chelsea man, I have always looked up to him and idolised him. He has won so many trophies and so many honours.’

Tweeting after the game, James – in a picture with Ronaldo – said: ‘Felt like we deserved more. ‘Thank you for the support & stick with us! The marathon continues.’

But both players were praised by Sky Sports pundit Roy Keane after the match.

‘What a player Reece James is,’ Keane said. ‘He looks like a boxer. His distribution, movement, strength.

‘He seems like a nice kid too. He’s a clever lad, could play in any position. Chelsea are a lucky club to have him. Outstanding.’

Meanwhile, after sarcastically responding to Ronaldo’s critics by saying the Portuguese is ‘such a big problem’ because he scores goals ‘week in, week out’, Keane added: ‘I know people criticise him for his pressing but he’s never been great at that.

‘That was his only chance tonight really, see the chances Chelsea were creating. Imagine if he was in the Chelsea team – he would be getting 50 goals.

‘He’s in a poor United side who aren’t creating many chances for him… his touch, his movement, when you turn away you know it’s going to be a goal. Brilliant.

‘In terms of goals, that’s what he came back for. He’s dependent on getting balls in the right areas and they’ve not been great at that this year but he’s still produced the goods.’
