‘It was a sympathy vote’: Fans claim Arsenal were awarded a penalty against Man City to make up for VAR’s high-profile error that cost them two points against Brentford last weekend… and even Piers Morgan didn’t think Ederson fouled Nketiah!
- Manchester City beat Arsenal in their Premier League clash on Wednesday
- Fans have an elaborate theory as to why Arsenal were awarded a penalty
- They have referenced the VAR decision in Arsenal’s game with Brentford
Football fans have taken to social media to say Arsenal were awarded a controversial penalty against Manchester City to make up for the VAR decision that went against them in their Premier League clash with Brentford on Saturday.
Arsenal were awarded a penalty by Anthony Joshua in their 3-1 defeat to City after Ederson bundled into Eddie Nketiah. However, the jury remains out on whether it should have been awarded or not.
Fans have taken to social media to jokingly say that Joshua awarded Arsenal the penalty to make up for Lee Mason’s decision during their game against Brentford last week.
Mikel Arteta accused VAR Mason of ‘not understanding’ his job after he allowed Ivan Toney’s 74th-minute equaliser to stand on Saturday despite the fact there was a clear offside in the build-up. As a result, the Bees drew 1-1 and denied Arsenal of two points crucial points.
Therefore, fans have taken to social media to joke that Joshua went out of his way to repay Arsenal by awarding a penalty against Manchester City in their top of the table clash on Wednesday.
