They waited patiently in line and paid up to £150 for a meet-and-greet photo with Hollywood star Jude Law at one of the world’s biggest fan conventions.

But some were left distinctly unimpressed when they were told to keep their distance and ‘not to touch’ the Marvel and Harry Potter actor at the MegaCon event in Orlando, Florida, last weekend.

And far from the cosy snaps they were expecting to take home, they ended up with shots of themselves standing several inches away from the British actor.

In the pictures, Law, star of the new Star Wars spin-off series Skeleton Crew, looks glum and appears awkward as he poses alongside some of his eager fans.

Some claimed Law, 52, estimated to be worth £60 million, imposed a ‘no touching’ ban and they were told no close contact was allowed, describing him as ‘standoffish’.

Meanwhile, other stars including Lord Of The Rings actor Andy Serkis, Mel Gibson, Ron Howard and his daughter, actress Bryce Dallas Howard, ‘happily shook our hands and put arms around us’, they said. Multiple comments were made about Law’s behaviour on the event’s social media page.

One fan among the more than 250,000 who attended told The Mail on Sunday: ‘They told us “no hugs, no handshakes”.’ Others aired their complaints on a public fan Facebook page.

One said: ‘I thought he would at least put his arm around me since that’s what I’ve had the celebs always do in the past (just the minimal amount of touching, not expecting anything more) so there’s a bit of awkward empty space between us in the photo.’

Another complained: ‘Barely greeted us… I said thanks for being here or something and he just didn’t respond to anything.’

Some others complained that they had not received value for money, saying: ‘Not worth what he was charging – probably out of all the 20 photos [with celebrities at the event], it was the one I regretted.’

Another fan commented of Law: ‘He was in an assembly line mode. You get to say your two-second piece and move on.’

One attendee at the event said organisers do not dictate a no-touching policy and that it is ‘at the discretion or ask of the celebrity themselves’ but they added: ‘I’ve only had that once or twice from all conventions I’ve been to.’

A source told the Mail on Sunday that on top of huge appearance fees of up £80,000 or more for a weekend at a convention such as Mega Con, stars also receive a large cut of the fee for autographs and meet and greets.

A spokesman for Jude Law was approached for comment.
