Ajax’s players were left heartbroken on Wednesday night when Tottenham knocked them out of the Champions League.

When Lucas Moura completed his hat-trick in the 96th minute to send Spurs to the final, the Dutch side collapsed to the floor.

They knew they were on their way out as Spurs leveled the scores on aggregate to give the north Londoners the advantage on away goals.

Ajax’s players were left heartbroken on Wednesday night when Tottenham knocked them out

Football fans on social media took the opportunity to poke fun at the Eredivise side.  

One said: ‘The sniper from Saving Private Ryan absolutely nailing the Ajax team there.’

Another person posted a video of the Ajax players falling alongside Radiohead song Just. 

One person spotted that one of the Ajax players was already falling to the floor as they said: ‘One of them was on his way down before it even went in.’

Someone else continued the army theme as they said: ‘Sniper gets the Ajax team in the 96th minute!’  

Mauricio Pochettino’s side lost the first leg 1-0 before finding themselves 2-0 down at half-time at the Johan Cruyff Arena. 

Then Moura went on to score a hat-trick in the second half as the north London club won the match 3-2 on the night.
