Fashion Critical’s hilarious review of the best and worst dress from the 2022 Met Gala

The fashion elite and A-listers descended on the steps of New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art for the annual Met Gala on the first Monday in May decked out in spectacular, outrageous and outright bizarre outfits.

Fashion Critical, a mystery satirical troll from Australia shared her analysis of each look post-event in a 81-image gallery with their best and worst dressed celebrities of the night.

This year’s Met Gala theme, which always gives the stars an opportunity to be more daring with their fashion choices, was Gilded Glamour and saw corsets, sequins, and puffy skirts a-plenty on the red carpet.

From hailing Blake Lively as the queen of the carpet to dubbing Kylie Jenner’s gown a ‘crime against couture’ and even likening Gig Hadid’s red cape to ’12 sleeping bags sewn together’, the brazen fashion reviewer didn’t hold back with their critiques.

Bella Hadid, 25, was dubbed ‘worst on ground’ by Fashion Critical who ‘loathed’ her all-black Burberry gown with a leather corset and lace tights calling it ‘depressing as hell’

Kim Kardashian, who appeared alongside boyfriend Pete Davidson, made fashion history by squeezing into Marilyn Munroe’s iconic ‘Happy Birthday Mr President’ dress but Fashion Critical was not impressed and said it was ‘sacrilege’ and ‘deeply disappointing’.

‘She lost 16 pounds to fit into it which is also kind of offensive and dumb in this day and age. Also, it’s BARELY Met Gala-ish,’ they wrote.

‘She should have been arrested on the stairs for crimes against couture. Imagine the designer wrecking this dress with the bloody baseball cap, veil and stopped 90s t-shirt vibes. It could have been SO STUNNING. Meh,’ they said.

Staying in the Kardashian clan, the red carpet reviewer said Kendall Jenner’s Prada get-up was a ‘behemoth of a skirt with a top that gives me vibes from Gwyneth Paltrow’s horrendous Oscars outfit from yesteryear’ and they were ‘super bored’ by Kourtney Kardashian’s Thom Browne suit dress.

‘I can’t see a tight jumpsuit without feeling a bit unwashed. Add diamanté pubes and I just can’t even,’ they said of Dakota Johnson’s Gucci one-piece.

BEST ON THE RED CARPET

Fashion Critical, like many fellow red carpet analysist, dubbed Blake Lively, 34, as the queen of the Met Gala carpet for her incredible colour changing Versace copper gown.

As a homage to the Statue of Liberty and New York architecture in the Gilded Age, Lively started the carpet in a stunning rose gold dress then as she continued up the Met stairs, the skirt was unraveled revealing the aquamarine underside.

‘The absolute QUEEN of the Met Gala for the last eleventy twenty years, Blake Lively rocked up in this MAGNIFICENT creation. The theme this year is “Gilded Glamour” and if this isn’t that then I don’t even know,’ they said.
