Fast and Furious franchise will come to a close with TWO MORE movies

Fast and Furious franchise will come to a close with TWO MORE movies directed by Justin Lin… after dominating the box office for 20 years

Universal Pictures is planning two final rides for its lucrative Fast & Furious franchise, with director Justin Lin coming back to the helm.

The studio is planning on bringing the Fast & Furious franchise to a close with two final movies, directed by Justin Lin, according to Deadline.

When all is said and done, Lin will have directed seven of the 11 Fast & Furious movies, including the upcoming F9, arriving May 28, 2021.

Diesel will return to star as Dominic Toretto, while also producing through his One Race Films production company.

Also expected to return are Michelle Rodriguez (Letty Ortiz), Tyrese Gibson (Roman Pearce), Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges (Tej Parker), Jordana Brewster (Mia Toretto), Nathalie Emmanuel (Megan Ramsey) and Sung Kang (Han).

Charlize Theron is rumored to portray her character Cipher once again, who debuted in 2017’s The Fate of the Furious and returns in F9.

It’s also possible that F9 new cast members John Cena, Helen Mirren, Cardi B and Reggaeton singer Ozuna could come back for the final two installments.

Perhaps the biggest question mark, though, is if Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson will return to the franchise for the last two films.

Johnson debuted in the franchise in Fast Five, returning to star in Fast & Furious 6 and Furious 7, though he feuded quite harshly with Vin Diesel during production.

Johnson ultimately left the flagship franchise to star alongside Jason Statham in the spin-off Fast & Furious: Hobbs and Shaw.

There is also the possibility of bringing back several other stars who appeared in earlier films such as Gal Gadot, who made her feature film debut in 2009 as Gisele, and returned in 2011’s Fast Five, 2013’s Fast & Furious 6 and 2015’s Furious 7.

No release dates for the 10th and 11th films in the franchise have been given quite yet.

Director Lin made his feature debut with the 2002 indie Better Off Tomorrow, which he followed up with 2006’s Anapolis.

He made his first foray into the Fast & Furious franchise with 2006’s Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift, and he became a mainstay at the helm for years.

He would go on to direct 2009’s Fast & Furious, 2013’s Fast & Furious 6 and 2015’s Furious 7, a production which was marred by the sudden death of star Paul Walker in a freak automobile crash.

The first Fast & Furious flick was released on June 22, 2001 and grossed more than $200million globally.

The series is Universal’s biggest franchise and ranks as the tenth highest-grossing franchises of all time with more than $5.8billion total gross worldwide.
