Fastest luxury SUV ever: £189,000 Aston Martin DBX707 can hit 193mph

With a strictly impressive flourish, Aston Martin has unleashed what it claims to be the fastest, most potent and best-handling luxury SUV in the world – its new £189,000-plus flagship DBX707 off-roader.

Showing some powerful moves and equally fast and fancy footwork, the muscular vehicle was unveiled on Tuesday afternoon by TV celebrity and Strictly Come Dancing host Tess Daly, who was on hand to claim the new car ‘heralds a new definition of performance and driving pleasure’.

Powered by a 697bhp 4-litre V8 engine linked to a new 9-speed wet clutch gearbox, the DBX707 crossover (697bhp is 707PS in metric horsepower) accelerates from rest to 62mph in just 3.3 seconds and up to a top speed of 193mph.

Not bad for a car that weights two-and-a-quarter tonnes – and crucially for a game of Top Trumps, that’s faster than  Lamborghni Urus.

The V8 uprated 8-cylinder engine adds an extra 155bhp (157PS) to the standard DBX’s power output and shaves more than a second off its acceleration time to 60mph.

It can also accelerate to 100mph in just 7.4 seconds when using a ‘Race Start’ feature that in its most ramped-up driving modes.

Aston Martin bosses say it will outpace and outperform other rival luxury SUV supercars from the likes of Bentley and Lamborghini.

On sale now priced from £189,000 – a £30,000 mark-up on the standard £160,000 DBX – production is set to commence imminently with first deliveries scheduled to begin during early spring.

Built at Aston Martin’s new factory at St Athan, Wales, bosses at James Bond’s favourite car maker say the DBX707 marks ‘the pinnacle of SUV performance’ and ‘heralds a new definition of performance and driving pleasure’ thanks to engine, transmission, suspension and brake upgrades.

By way of comparison, it points out that the rival Lamborghini Urus 641bhp 4-litre V8 accelerates from 0-to-62mph in 3.6 seconds up to a top speed of 189mph, while the British-built 626bhp Bentley Bentayga Speed 6-litre W12 takes 3.9 seconds to reach 62mph and has a lesser top speed of 190mph.

Even Rolls-Royce’s Cullinan is no match, even with its 6.7-litre V12 motor.

The standard DBX accelerates from 0-to-62mph in 4.5 seconds up to a top speed of 181mph.
