Carefree father and son pose for photos with a massive 5.3-metre CROCODILE after capturing the predator to stop it eating their turtles
- James De Santis and son Harry captured the crocodile in December last year
- The 5.3m beast had been preying on endangered turtles in NT’s Tiwi Islands
- They harpooned the animal before relocating it to another side of the island
A father and son who caught a 5.3metre crocodile to stop it from eating their turtles posed for a series of carefree photos with the deadly predator.
James De Santis and his son Harry De Santis Yunupingu wrangled the huge crocodile in the Tiwi Islands in the Northern Territory last December.
The pair harpooned the crocodile before tying its jaw up and relocating it to another part of the island in what they say was ‘just fun and games’.

In extraordinary photos, Mr De Santis is seen straddling over the crocodile’s head and holding the rope around its mouth.
Another photo shows Harry swimming alongside the huge croc – which was even bigger than their dingy.
The pair say the animal had been preying on an endangered species of turtles in the area.
‘It was killing all of our laying turtles, the Oliver Ridley, and we’ve got low numbers and so me and my son took it upon ourselves to move him and relocate it,’ Mr De Santis told the NT News.
In March last year, another four-metre crocodile was captured in the Tiwi Islands.
The animal had killed dozens of dogs and had threatened fishermen for months.
It was relocated to Darwin so it would not longer pose a threat.
