A Gold Coast father-of-two has converted a farmhouse-style barn into a stunning luxury home complete with four bedrooms and three bathrooms.

Frank Stafford said he has always loved renovation, and so re-styling the barn into a modern home was as much a passion project as it was a lot of work.

‘I am addicted to shows like Grand Designs and love the idea of walking into anything and working out what you can do with it, while paying homage to the original design,’ Frank told FEMAIL.

‘This was just a big open plan barn that had been built for storage space. There was a lot we could do with it.’

Frank said he had always kept an eye on property in the Tamborine Mountain area, and so when the barn came on the market, he couldn’t wait to see it.

‘I put an offer on it the next day and bought it nearly three years ago,’ Frank said.

‘It took about eight months to transform, but was quite a lot of work, as we had to add two giant rainwater tanks for water as well as make it livable.’

To transform the barn, Frank said he enlisted the help of both an architect and a builder, who helped him to design the ultimate modern family home.

These can be seen from almost every room thanks to the clever use of glass throughout the house.

‘My dream when I started was that you could see the view from bed in the master bedroom,’ Frank said.

‘It’s amazing lying in bed and watching the sun come up over the mountains.’

Frank said it took eight months to carry out the transformation, and a lot of hard work (kitchen pictured after)

The conversion features four bedrooms and three bathrooms.

There is also a useful covered outdoor entertaining area attached to the living and dining space, which Frank said is perfect at sunset ‘when the lights come on along the coast’.

‘It’s a beautiful spot to be and when it’s cold, put the fire on inside and sit there with a wine – it’s so peaceful,’ he said.

‘I’ve done up 15 or 16 properties now and think there is always something that made someone build something the way they did.’
