The father of a 20-year-old boy who almost died after overdosing on ice twice has called on the government to force addicts to stay in rehab.
Murray (last name undisclosed) said his son has been admitted to numerous public and private rehabilitation centres since becoming involved with drugs at the age of 14, but has repeatedly walked out before completing the programs.
The devastated father has written to the courts and the Western Australian premier campaigning for a law that would force addicts to stay in rehab, according told 7 News.

‘Oh, it’s heart breaking, absolutely heart breaking. He was a beautiful boy,’ Murray said.
‘We need a law where they don’t get the option – they have to stay for the prescribed period because otherwise, like I say, all we are creating is a revolving door.
NSW is currently trialing compulsory rehabilitation for addicts.
Murray’s situation is similar to hundreds of people in Western Australia, WA Police Minister Michelle Roberts said.
The operator of Shalom House in WA’s Swan Valley, Peter Lyndon-James, told 7 News said recovery from drug addiction may not be as simple as forcing a person into rehab.
‘A person’s gotta come to that point where they say ‘I want to change’,’ Mr Lyndon-James said.
