Father’s desperate bid to find work as he stands on side of busy road advertising his skills on sign

A father-of-two who has struggled to feed his family since moving states nine months ago has been sitting at the roadside for two days with a sign asking for full-time work.

Dale Hardy moved from Goulburn, south-west NSW, to Townsville, north Queensland, last year with his wife, Donna, and their two young daughters.

The 45-year-old said the family moved to the warmer climate for his daughters’ immune systems.

Although he was able to find a part-time job, Hardy said he has struggled to land permanent employment.

Fed up with his fruitless job search, Hardy stood on the side of Woolcock Street and Ingham Road on Monday and Tuesday with a placard touting his skills and phone number.

The father-of-two spent seven hours each day by the roadside.

‘We struggle to put food on the table,’ Hardy told Daily Mail Australia.

The 45-year-old said his casual work is not enough to feed his family of four.

His wife, Donna, has been unable to work for two years after an accident caused her to lose the ability to use one arm.

Although he has not yet been offered full-time work, Hardy said the idea has been well-received.

‘I really want to be working full time so i can support my family, I don’t take days off,’ he said.

Donna said the couple came up with the idea to hold a sign roadside after nothing else seemed to work.

‘I’m overwhelmed by the support he’s received from posts we’ve put on Facebook,’ she said.

‘Me and the girls are very proud of him, as his willing to do anything to support his family.’

Donna also urged employers not to judge her husband by his age or weight as he is ‘a bloody hard worker.’

Hardy says he will head back out with his sign on Thursday.

The 45-year-old said he has a HR truck licence and fork lift licence, as well as bob cat ticket and a white card.
