Fed up man’s extreme lengths to name-and-shame dog owners goes viral

  • Brisbane resident David Deaned was sick of watching a dog abuse his lawn
  • So he set up a surveillance camera to catch the selfish culprit and his dog
  • Security footage was uploaded to Facebook in hope someone recognises him
  • But some people find the approach a little bit too much for the crime itself

An extremely fed up man has launched a viral crusade to catch the owner of a dog who continues to poo on his front lawn.

Brisbane resident David Deaned was so frustrated by the animal faeces he kept finding in his garden that he set up surveillance cameras to nab the suspect – and posted the footage on Facebook to warn others.

‘Day after day we pick up the mess,’ he captioned the video, Courier-Mail reports.

Mr Deaned admitted guests to his house had trampled in the offending poo when trying to get inside, as had he, and would love to have a ‘little chat’ with the man.

In the video, he appears to be wearing a red t-shirt and blue shorts, apparently completely unawares his black dog is leaving a trail of destruction behind.

Nonetheless he walks away without cleaning up his pet’s mess.

But commenters on social media are at odds over Mr Deaned’s extreme method of catching the man.

‘Installing a CCTV camera to watch whose dog poops near your house? Why not a satellite?’ commented one local.

‘Print out these photos on large A3, laminate and stick a few on posts on your footpath with the caption, “is this you?” and below [put] the rules,’ wrote another.

But if the red t-shirt wearing pet owner does get caught he’s looking at quite a substantial fine.

Failing to pick up droppings in Brisbane is an offence that carries a $252 fine and if you get caught without a bag on you you’re looking at $63.

In Melbourne it’s even higher, with one council increasing fees to $500 for leaving the poo behind and $200 if you don’t have a bag.
