Female pedestrian, 57, dies after being hit by police car in south east London

  • Woman in her later 50s was hit by an unmarked police car in Bromley yesterday
  • She was rushed to hospital but died this morning, Scotland Yard has said
  • An investigation is underway. It is unclear whether the car was answering a call 

A woman has died after she was knocked down by an unmarked police car in south-east London. 

The woman, aged 57, was hit by the unmarked police car in Bromley shortly before 4pm yesterday and died in hospital this morning. 

The incident happened on the busy junction at the end of the A21.

It is unclear whether the police car was on its way to an emergency. The Met says that will form part of its investigation.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: ‘At approximately 17:20hrs on Thursday, 1 August a marked police vehicle was in collision with a female pedestrian in Farnborough Common, jct with Crofton Road, Bromley.

‘London’s Air Ambulance attended and the pedestrian, a 57-year-old woman was taken to an east London hospital for treatment. 

‘She died at 09:30 hours on Friday, 2 August. Her next of kin have been informed.

‘The Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed and the Independent Office for Police Conduct who have launched an investigation.’
