A female prison officer has been arrested after allegedly having a romance with an inmate while he was behind bars.

Melissa Goodwin, 25, is expected to be charged with a number of offences over her relationship with former prisoner, Caleb Valeri.

A former bikie turned rapper, Valeri regularly posts photos to social media of his time behind bars and claims to have filmed the video clip for his first song while in prison.

Goodwin was last month stood down from her role at Sydney’s Metropolitan Remand and Reception Centre after allegations of her relationship with Valerie were revealed.

Since Valeri’s release, the couple have regularly posted photos together, with no apparent concern that they should be hiding their alleged romance.

Ms Goodwin’s Instagram profile even features a shout out to her man, with ‘Caleb’ written next to a love heart.

Until recently her display photo featured her sitting happily on his lap.

Ms Goodwin was arrested on Monday and taken to Campbelltown Police Station for questioning.

A spokeswoman for Corrective Services NSW said earlier this month that it was not clear whether their relationship had begun inside the prison or after Valeri’s release.

‘It is alleged the officer failed to declare an association with an offender,’ she said.

‘The matter has been referred to the Corrective Services Investigations Unit.’

Police say they expect to lay charges against her on Monday afternoon.

Earlier this year Ms Goodwin posed happily alongside two fellow prison officers on the front cover of the March-April edition of the Corrective Services NSW magazine.
