Female teacher charged with child grooming Hunter Valley

  • Teacher was charged on Wednesday and will appear in court on November 6

A 50-year-old female teacher has been charged after allegedly sending sexually explicit messages to teenage students in the NSW Hunter region.

Investigators uncovered a number of explicit text messages and phone calls sent between a 50-year-old female employee and a male student, aged 15, over the past four months, police said.

A second student, aged 16, was also involved in sending and receiving messages and phone calls from the teacher.

The woman was charged at Raymond Terrace Police Station on Wednesday with grooming a child for unlawful sexual activity, using a carriage service to groom a child under 16 for sex and using a carriage service to menace, harass, offend.

She is no longer employed by the school, police said. 

She was given conditional bail and is scheduled to appear in Raymond Terrace local court on November 6.
