Fergie sends sends ‘wonderful and thoughtful cake’ to Colonel Tom Moore

Sarah Ferguson has wished  Colonel Tom Moore a happy 100th birthday by sending a ‘wonderful and thoughtful’ cake and card from ‘whole of the York family’.

The Duchess of York’s assistant Antonia Marshall shared an image of the elaborate cake to Instagram, dedicated to the World War II veteran who’s inspired the nation by raising £30 million for The NHS by doing laps of his garden.

The message from Fergie, 60, ex-husband Prince Andrew, 60, and their daughters Princess Beatrice, 31, and Princess Eugenie, 29, read: ‘Happy Birthday Captain Tom, with love to all your family, the York Family.’

It comes as the mother-of-two threw her support behind Kurt Geiger’s We Are One tote bags, by posing with the accessory in a playful snap taken at her home, The Royal Lodge, Windsor, sporting a striking woodland-themed headband.

All profits from sales of the bag will go to NHS Charities Together.

This comes after the news that the Queen has appointed Colonel Tom Moore as the first Honorary Colonel of the Army Foundation College Harrogate to mark his birthday.

The promotion comes alongside a personal letter from Her Majesty and the new Colonel has also been re-presented with his Second World War Defence Medal ahead of next week’s VE Day celebrations.

The veteran also had two flypasts to mark his big day yesterday– by Army Air Corps helicopters as well as a Spitfire and Hurricane in the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.

As well-wishers across the globe sent cards in their thousands, Defence Secretary Ben Wallace paid tribute to Colonel Tom, saying he not only embodies ‘the spirit of our incredible veteran community but also the resolve of this nation’.

As well as congratulations from Prince Charles and Camilla, who said he makes her ‘proud to be British’, the veteran has also had a train named after him – The Captain Tom Moore – which will go into service with the new name today, Great Western Railway said.

Earlier, his family said he had been left ‘completely overwhelmed’ after receiving hundreds of thousands of cards from around the globe to mark his 100th birthday.
