Ferguson ton helps SA set Vics solid chase

A sparkling century from Callum Ferguson has lifted South Australia to a competitive total in their one-day cup match against Victoria at Junction Oval.

The Redbacks struggled early in their innings on a testing pitch before reaching 7-265 off their 50 overs.

With SA reduced to 2-30 early, Ferguson dug in and batted for most of the innings before he was dismissed for 133 off 125 balls.

In the process Ferguson brought up his eighth one-day century and the veteran now holds the record for most tons for South Australia in the competition.

It was a welcome return to form for the usually reliable Ferguson, who had failed to pass 50 in the first four matches of the competition.

Captain Jake Lehmann (44) and Tom Cooper (37) were Ferguson’s main allies although the former was the victim of unfortunate run out – one of two for the Redbacks.

Returning legspinner Fawad Ahmed (2-53) collected the best figures while Glenn Maxwell (0-38) was frugal with his nine overs of spin.
