Ferocious-looking feline Barbara becomes a star on Instagram

A fierce feline whose killer gaze and grumpy demeanor has earned her more than 57,000 Instagram followers is actually quite affectionate — as long as with she is with her owner.

Barbara, previously named Belle, was one of actress and animal rights activist Beth Stern’s fosters before she was adopted by Sarah Borok, who turned her into an online star.

‘Barbara’s character fluctuates between being profoundly disappointed in everything I do, to being an adoring ball of mush that I can manipulate into any position without resistance,’ Sarah told Bored Panda.

If looks could kill! Barbara the cat has earned more than 57,000 Instagram followers thanks to her killer glare

‘She is up for affection and smothering any time of day. If anyone else enters the house though, she basically threaten to murder them.’

Barbara is quite affectionate with her owner, but it wasn’t love at first sight. When Sarah first brought the rescue home, she used to aggressively attack her.

The feline has since grown to love her owner, and now she cant’ sleep without her.

Sarah said Barbara will fall asleep spooned in her arm and will follow her every time changes position in the middle of the night.

‘I don’t think Barbara is capable of sleeping in any position that is detached from my arm,’ she admitted.

Barbara can still be temperamental at times, and in July, Sarah shared a photo of red scratch marks on her arm.

‘Tonight I learned a very important lesson about the rules at my house. No more texting. It will not be tolerated,’ she wrote.

The ASPCA recommends that owners of aggressive cats should work with professionals because it can be a difficult problem to diagnose and properly treat.

A medical workup is key because some cats lash out because of a medical condition or complication.

Sarah, who is an animal activist, fills Barbara’s @grumpybarbara Instagram page with a mix of photos of the feline glaring at the camera and cuddling with her doting owner.

When Barbara is not curled on her arm, she likes to lie on Sarah’s chest with her paws stretched out — even if that means resting her paw on her owner’s face.

Another shows Sarah sleeping with Barbara’s head peeking out in the space between her arm and head.

‘The internet has fallen in love with Barbara’s grumpy face but mostly as it completely contradicts the extreme smothering affection they see in her with me. It seems to give her more complexity, and also makes me the envy of, like, millions of women?’ Sarah said of her beloved cat.
