Ferran Torres is given hero’s welcome by jubilant fans at Nou Camp unveiling as £55m signing revels in ‘dream’ move following Manchester City transfer

Ferran Torres was given a warm welcome by the Barcelona supporters after he was unveiled at Nou Camp on Monday morning ahead of the club’s open-door training session. 

The supporters were invited into the stadium to get an up-close glimpse of their heroes in action, following their return from the winter break. They were also presented with Barcelona’s latest signing ahead of the squad training session. 

Torres, who completed a £55million move from Manchester City to Barcelona, was seen walking out onto the pitch wearing the Catalan’s home strip. He was cheered and applauded as he made his way across the grass.

Torres was seen waving at the supporters who attended his unveiling – having previously stated he was ‘very excited’ about completing his move to Catalonia’. 

The former City star was also heard addressing the Barcelona fans. He said: ‘Thank you to everyone for this welcome. It is a dream for me. We all know how great Barça is and I am here to help the Club back to where it belongs.’

Torres went on to sign a Barcelona banner and shirt before enjoying a traditional kick around with the ball in front of the fans.

President Joan Laporta also stepped up to say a few words about the club’s £55m signing from Manchester City. 

He said: ‘Ferran has shown a great desire to come here and I want to thank him for his persistence; he has preferred to come here to show his qualities.’ 

Laporta went on to say: ‘People didn’t believe we could sign Ferran, and here he is! Barcelona remains a benchmark in the football market.’

Before rounding off his speech by adding: ‘Everybody should get ready, as we are back as big players in the market.’

Following the unveiling, Torres took part in Barcelona’s traditional New Years open-door training session.

Tickets for the session were sold to raise funds for the FC Barcelona Foundation as part of their Children’s Well-being project. 

Each ticket cost three euros and the amount collected was donated to the Robot Project, part of the Foundation’s Childrens’ Emotional Well-being programme which enables seriously ill and hospitalised children to visit the Museum and Camp Nou via a remote-controlled robot.
