Firefighters battle enormous blaze at their OWN New York firehouse as the building and three trucks are incinerated on Christmas morning

A devastating fire engulfed a firehouse in Long Island, New Year, on Christmas morning, destroying three fire engines and leaving the building a charred hull. 

The North Massapequa fire headquarters at 1000 North Broadway was unoccupied when flames ignited inside the structure overnight.

A New York state trooper passing in the area noticed the inferno consuming the firehouse and called 911 at around 6.21am on Wednesday.

Video recorded by a bystander at the scene showed firefighters dousing the raging three-alarm fire scorching through the structure, sending clouds of thick black smoke into the dark pre-dawn sky. 

It took some 120 firefighters from 20 different department to extinguish the blaze, but not before it incinerated two fire engines and a ladder truck, and heavily damaged an ambulance.

A Nassau County police spokesperson told Newsday the firehouse was ‘pretty much destroyed.’   

Multiple fire departments across Long Island have offered to loan their equipment to their colleagues in North Massapequa. 

Investigators are on the scene working to determine the cause of the fire, which was said to have been focused on the roof of the engine bay.
