Fitness fanatic trains himself to run down the stairs BACKWARDS

A man in east China has stunned park-goers with his extraordinary skills to run down a flight of stairs backwards.

Yin Zuoping, 57, can go down 52 steps in just five seconds and finish the stunt with a full split.

Mr Yin has been practising the stunt for a year and is planning to challenge the fastest backward runner in the Guinness World Records.

The reason why Mr Yin started running down the stairs backwards was quite unusual.

The man said he found the method could help him stop falling over on slippery stairs, according to Pear Video, a video-sharing platform.

‘The road was slippery during rainy season in summer, so I thought it’d be better to walk down the stairs in reverse,’ said the 57-year-old from Jinan, Shandong Province.

‘I would only touch the ground with my toes and that can reduce the contact between my body and the ground.’

Mr Yin claimed the exercise could also strengthen his body coordination and make him braver.

‘Once you get used to it, your body performs better and your legs become stronger,’ he added.

His personal best record to run down 52 steps was four and a half seconds.

Mr Yin’s practice has wowed other park-goers and tourists who would stop and watch the man.

‘This is unbelievable. He is definitely a hidden kung fu master,’ said one female tourist.

According to Guinness World Records, the fastest person to run backwards for 200 metres is Timothy Bud Badyna from the United States.

A record of 32.78 seconds was set by Mr Badyna on January 17, 2001.
