Five young children have been arrested after a dangerous high-speed pursuit through the suburban streets of Brisbane. 

The group, aged between 12 and 17, allegedly stole a Ford Escape before speeding through Bayside in the city’s east at more than 100 km/h, according to 9News.

Over a dozen police cars and PolAir were involved in the chase, which unfolded at about midnight.

Police used road spikes twice but the group allegedly managed to continue the chaos on flat tyres for several kilometres. 

Authorities allege the young children may be part of the Northside gang, a local group that brags about stealing expensive cars on social media. 

Neighbours who were woken by the ruckus told 9news they were disturbed by the incident. 

‘I think it’s quite frightening that kids of that age are out in the middle of the night on their own,’ Kate Robinson said. 

The group were arrested and charged, but have since been released on bail.
