Five people are dead after a car rolls and slams into trees in horror crash in Kakadu National Park

Five people have died in a horror crash after their vehicle veered off the road, rolled and crashed into trees.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene 60km west of Jabiru on the Arnhem Highway in Kakadu National Park, in the Northern Territory, at about 9.50am on Monday. 

The five victims were found dead at the scene when emergency crews arrived.

The sides of the vehicle were completely torn off, the ABC reported.

Debris was strewn across the crash site as investigators sifted through the wreckage. 

Investigators are working to confirm the identities of the deceased so the families can be notified.

The Arnhem Highway has briefly been reopened to traffic, police said on social media.

The highway will be closed again at some stage for further investigations.  

The Northern Territory Road Toll for 2019 now stands at 28 compared to 47 at the same time last year.
