Flight of fancy! Karl Stefanovic and Jasmine Yarbrough blow $50K flying first class to Australia

Flight of fancy! Karl Stefanovic and Jasmine Yarbrough ‘spend almost $50,000 flying first class from the U.S. to Australia’ – just two days after he was sacked from the Today show

Karl Stefanovic lost his high-paying job as host of the Today show on Wednesday – but that didn’t stop him taking a luxury flight home two days later.

Karl and his new wife, Jasmine Yarbrough, potentially spent up to $50,000 on first class tickets flying Qantas from the U.S. to Sydney on Friday.

While it’s unclear which American airport they departed from, Karl’s luggage tag was clearly marked ‘first class’ as it passed through customs at Sydney Airport.

A first-class ticket, flying 15 hours non-stop from LAX to Sydney on Qantas, costs approximately $23,000.

But the exorbitant price tag did not seem to bother the happy couple, who had just returned from their five-star honeymoon in Aspen.

Indeed, two first-class plane tickets would have hardly compared to what they spent on their luxury wedding in Los Cabos, Mexico on December 8.

Karl reportedly set aside $500,000 for the four-day affair, which was held at the  One&Only Palmilla resort in San José del Cabo.

The wedding was particularly expensive because Karl and Jasmine apparently paid for multiple family members to travel overseas.

The pair also booked two villas at the world-famous resort, one priced at $11,600 per night and another at $15,000 per night.

Cash reserves: Two first-class plane tickets would have hardly dented the couple's bank accounts, given their recent luxury wedding in San Jòse del Cabo, Mexico. Karl reportedly 'set aside $500,000' for the four-day affair in Mexico's exclusive One&Only Palmilla resort

Karl set the bar high back in February when he popped the question to Jasmine with an engagement ring rumoured to have cost $100,000.

Woman’s Day magazine previously reported that Karl had spent about $250,000 flying Jasmine around the world last Christmas.

Karl reportedly earns $3million a year at Channel Nine, a salary which is unlikely to be affected by the fact he is no longer hosting the Today show.

However, the controversial TV star still has financial liabilities to contend with.

It has been widely reported that Karl’s ex-wife Cassandra Thorburn received much of the former couple’s assets in their divorce settlement – including an $8million mansion – as well as $35,000 in monthly payments.

Also weighing Karl down financially is the mortgage on his $7million Mosman home.
