Florida cop is charged with misconduct after shocking video showed him forcibly detaining a black woman who called 911 on a white neighbor

  • Officer Alejandro Giraldo has been charged with misdemeanor battery and felony official misconduct following an incident in Miami-Dade on March 5
  • Giraldo was one of six officers who responded to a call made by black woman Dyma Loving, 26, on that date
  • She phoned for assistance after her white neighbor allegedly made racist threats against her
  • However, Loving ended up being violently arrested by Giraldo and the incident was captured on camera
  • The footage went viral, prompting a probe from law enforcement who reviewed evidence and arrested Giraldo for ‘a violation of Florida’s criminal statutes’

A Miami-Dade cop has been arrested two months after he was caught on camera violently detaining a black woman who called police for help with a neighborhood dispute.

Officer Alejandro Giraldo has been charged with misdemeanor battery and felony official misconduct over the incident, which sent shockwaves through the community.

On March 5, Giraldo was one of six officers who responded to a call from Dyma Loving, 26, whose white neighbor allegedly threatened to shoot her ‘blacka*s face off her neck’.

After police arrived, Loving’s interactions with Giraldo and the other officers somehow turned tense, and Loving’s friend began recording the exchange – which she later posted on the internet.

In the footage, Giraldo can be seen grabbing Loving by the neck and pushing her up against the fence.

‘Do not touch me!’ Loving screams, before Giraldo takes her arm and yanks her to the ground, putting her into a headlock and throwing her across the cement.

She was subsequently charged with disorderly conduct and resisting an office without violence.

At the time, Giraldo said he made the arrest because Loving ‘would not obey commands’ and was being ‘uncooperative’, according to ABC News.

However, on Friday, the Miami-Dade State Attorneys Office released a statement saying that an examination of the cell phone recording and police bodycam footage showed that to be untrue.

‘After reviewing all the known video evidence, we believe that there is sufficient evidence to charge [Giraldo with] a violation of Florida’s criminal statutes,’ they stated.

Meanwhile, Miami-Dade Police Department Director Juan Perez said Giraldo’s arrest ‘overshadows the hard work of the dedicated men and women of law enforcement, who strive daily to serve and protect our community’.

He was released on $5500 bond, and is expected to face court at a later date
