Florida man punches fire chief performing CPR on his wife

 A Florida man attacked a local fire chief who was trying to perform Cardiopulmonary resuscitation on his wife. She would eventually die.

Escambia County EMS units arrived to the 9000 block of Appleton Road in Brewton, Florida, after the Sheriff’s Office was notified of a woman having an asthma attack. 

Sheriff’s deputies were called soon after the initial 6.45pm call to assist in the matter as the address was recognize for a domestic dispute issue earlier in the day.  

‘(EMS and Fire) made the decision to stage a short distance away from the residence awaiting law enforcement’s arrival,’ the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement on Friday. 

Law enforcement was asked to go into the residence first when they learned that the woman might not have been breathing, but ultimately they did not.

Christopher Wade Smith was found inside the home, trying to give his wife CPR. 

And as Fire Chief Michael Tyler tried to step in, he was socked in the right eye and sustained ‘serious injury and fracture,’ according to deputies and officials. 

The reason was said to be a Facebook post.

‘There was an allegation made by Mr. Smith yesterday that were maybe some inappropriate things that went on at the local fire department in purchasing land, which is to our information of knowledge isn’t true,’ added Deputy Chief Mike Lambeth to WEARTV. 

The woman taken to DW McMillan Hospital in an ambulance but she was pronounced dead shortly after arriving there. 

Smith tried to flee the scene but he crashed into a firefighter’s vehicle. 

He was arrested and charged with first-degree assault and second-degree criminal mischief. 

Smith, who was already out on bond when the event took place, is currently being held at Escambia County Detention Center. 

The Escambia County District Attorney’s Office filed for his bond to be revoked pending investigation. 

His wife’s identity has not been released but she has been taken to the Department of Forensic Sciences to have an autopsy conducted.
