For some, the idea of being naked in public is petrifying. Others might get a thrill out of skinny dipping or spending a day or two at a nudist colony.
But for one group of Floridians, being naked is a lifestyle – and they want you to join them.
Cypress Lakes markets itself as a ‘family friendly’ nudist resort, designed for couples and families.
While many use the resort as a getaway, some live here permanently in mobile homes, spending about $450-$600 a month on rent.
Cypress Lakes in Florida, a nudist resort, is hosting an ‘open house’ on Saturday for prospective members and residents
Pictures from the resort show delighted members playing tennis or spending time together. It is optional to be nude everywhere except the pool
One group are seen raising money for breast cancer research at the resort, wearing only pink leis around their waists and beads
Inside the resort, there is a children’s playground, restaurants and bars, a beauty salon, a massage parlour, a white sand beach, pools and hot tubs.
Cypress Cove is also home to the American Nudist Research Library, housing the largest single collection of nudist printed material in the world.
On Saturday afternoon, the resort, located in Kissimmee, will throw open its doors to the public, allowing people to see if the nude life is for them.
An announcement on the resort’s website says the open house is tradition, and there is no cost to guests, or pressure to be nude.
‘Stay clothed and relax by the lake or bring a towel, shed your clothes, and beat the heat on the beach,’ the announcement reads.
‘We also will be hosting a pool party, complete with a DJ and an atmosphere of complete acceptance and relaxation.
‘Cypress Cove’s Open House is a great way to satisfy your curiosity and see just how much fun visiting our family friendly nudist resort can really be.’
Members of the resort, both visiting and residential, are able to access restaurants, massage parlors and even a hairdresser
The resort encourages relationships but is strict about touching of a sexual nature in public
Single men wishing to attend the resort must have previous experience at another nudist resort
The resort is family friendly, and children are welcome in all parts of the resort, but must leave the bars by 10pm
Pictures show residents playing tennis, swimming in the packed-out pool and kayaking.
Others are seen hosting a fundraiser for breast cancer research, and one woman is seen having her hair done, wearing only a pair of denim shorts.
Despite the sexual connotations often associated with living naked, Cypress Lakes is determined to hold on to its family friendly label.
Single men wishing to attend the resort must have previous experience at another nudist resort, and the website notes: ‘Sexually suggestive language, dancing, dress or displays of affection are never appropriate’.
Children are the only people able to wear clothing in the pool area, and adults are strongly advised to ‘never approach or play with unfamiliar children’.
To qualify for residency, prospective tenants must be a member of the resort and also have been to stay a few times before.
