Florida officer is nearly struck by lightning in parking lot

A Florida police officer got the shock of his life when a bolt of lightning struck the ground just several feet behind him.

The sudden lightning strike was caught on surveillance video and shows the bolt illuminate the parking lot in blinding light Tuesday evening, before disappearing with a violent crack.

The startling 15-second clip filmed Tuesday at 8:30pm shows the moment a severe storm rolls through the Apopka Police Station parking lot.

Upon hearing the crack the frightened officer bolted back into his car to avoid the noise

When the officer stands to exit his car, a lightning bolt suddenly strikes the parking lot directly behind him with a deafening buzz.

Frightened, the man rushes back into his car as a embers of fire can be seen rising from the place where the bolt hit.

The hit was so strong it took out the power of the nearby police station and damaged multiple transformers as well.

The Fire Department was also called to attend to haze that appeared in the building, but no damage or fire was located. 

Despite being just inches from the strike, the officer was not harmed in the incident.

No other injuries were reported.

The Apopka Chief shared the surveillance footage online saying the scare was ‘a little too close for comfort’.
