Florida police find children in hot car while mom in bar

A 28-year-old Kissimmee, Florida mother allegedly left her two young children unsupervised in a hot car with no air conditioning on Sunday.

Larissa Rivera’s children, who are four and five years old, were found by Orlando police who claim the mother went to Butkin Bar on International Boulevard for some drinks.

They said the children were left alone in a scorching hot silver Ford Focus, which was running with the keys in the ignition.

Officer W. Thomas of the Orlando Police Department was at the scene and opened the car’s door.

Apparently the little girl was crying hysterically and sweating while her brother slept in a car seat next to her. 

There was no food or drink in the car and the air conditioning was turned off. Police told WFTV it was 80 degrees outside but felt like 88 degrees.

Authorities made the discovery while the mother in question was inside the bar. She eventually walked out to greet them.

The police claimed she had glassy eyes and smelt like alcohol.

Witnesses said Rivera was at the bar at least an hour and a half and the children were alone in the car at least 30 minutes, investigators said

She told them that she was a regular at the bar and that people there help watch her kids from time-to-time. She also claimed to be watching them through a window.

Rivera has posted bail and is out of the Orange County Jail.
