Florida police hunt man ‘who stole bearded dragon’

Police are hunting down a barefoot man suspected of ransacking a family’s home during Hurricane Irma and making off with their pet bearded dragon. 

The man allegedly broke into the house in Daytona Beach, Florida, on September 11 at 2am – the height of the deadly storm. 

In the video released by Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, he can be seen pulling up to the house and knocking on the door.   

A police spokesman said: ‘The video isn’t great, but this is our suspect in a Sept. 11 burglary of a Daytona Beach-area residence that was evacuated during Hurricane Irma. 

‘Stolen in this case: Three flat-screen TVs, four gaming systems, a tablet, jewelry, and a fancy bearded dragon in his 10-gallon tank. 

‘This security camera captured some shots of the suspect knocking on the front door.’  

The homeowner told News 6 he believes the man broke into the French door in back and ransacked the house.

The homeowner said he’s worried the pet hasn’t been adequately fed and may be dying.

Hurricane Irma killed 72 people in Florida when it battered the southern state earlier this month.

The Florida Keys bore the brunt of Hurricane Irma, which struck as a Category Four storm with winds reaching over 130 miles (210 kilometers) per hour.

Irma also killed at least 40 people when it ripped through the Caribbean, bringing the total death toll to at least 112.
