Florida shootout after ‘drug deal gone bad’ leaves one dead

A ‘drug deal gone bad’ in Florida has led to the shooting death of a man and the detainment of another. 

Anthony J Borzell, 24, was attempting to sell three pounds of marijuana to two men at the Coney Island Restaurant in Brooksville, Florida, on January 23.

The Spring Hill native was said to have parked his car behind he restaurant to meet with De’Aundre Roberts and Napoleon Mason, who pulled in next to him. 

Borzell got into the passenger seat of Masons vehicle and sat in front of Roberts, according to Brooksville Police Department.

He had planned to sell them the cannabis for $8,000 but police believe the two men set him up to rob him.    

‘As the drug transaction turned to a robbery, a violent altercation ensued,’ a police news release, obtained by TampaBay.com, said on Monday. 

The transaction had been brought together by Borzell’s Arland Car Wash coworker, Abraham Dowdell IV. 

Video shows the moment Borzell hops out of the vehicle and begins firing with his 9mm handgun that he pulled from his front pocket. 

He can be shooting his gun – it was reportedly shot 11 times – at Mason’s vehicle before the car pulls off.

Police report that one of the rounds hit Roberts in his back as the two drove off. 

Borzell can be seen hopping back into his car and fleeing the scene. 

Mason was said to have later dropped Roberts off at the Bayfront Health Brooksville where he later died from his injuries.

Local officials have not been able to find any cannabis or firearms.  

The 24-year-old was arrested on Monday and charged with third-degree murder, criminal solicitation and possession of a firearm while committing a felony. 

Borzell was booked into the Hernando County jail and has a bail set at $37,000.
