Folks react to Say My Name and Vanessa A Williams in Candyman trailer

Destiny Child and Candyman appear to have the same message – that you say their name!

Social media users were left in a state of shock with the Thursday release of the trailer for the remake of the 1992 horror film, but couldn’t help but notice the creepy rendition of Destiny Child’s 1999 hit ‘Say My Name.’

‘Jordan Peele proves again he can take a classic R&B song Say My Name and remix it into a horror track we never knew we wanted for the #candymanmovie #Candyman,’ said one user.

Included in his post was a hilarious meme showing the iconic video for ‘Say My Name,’ but instead of showing Farrah Franklin – the very temporary fourth member of the group at the time – it shows the original Candyman, Tony Todd.

And while those folks were surely caught up with the musical selection in the trailer, many couldn’t help but be amazed by the appearance of Vanessa A. Williams.

Williams played in the original ‘Candyman’ nearly 30 years ago as Anne-Marie McCoy, the mother of the young infant who was stolen by the scary ghost.

The now 56-year-old actress makes a brief yet powerful appearance in the trailer for the remake, telling Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s character Anthony McCoy not to say Candyman’s name.
