This jaw-dropping clip shows an intrepid traveller swimming in a natural pool in one of the hottest places in the world.
Bridget Thackwray is one half of New Zealand travelling duo Expedition Earth, and in June the 25-year-old and her partner, Topher Richwhite, 33, discovered this phenomenon at the Danakil Depression – an eye-popping geological wonder in Ethiopia.
The area is peppered with deserts and hot springs, and Bridget was filmed taking a dip in the middle of a huge salt flat.
As the footage pans down it’s clear just how arid and vast the salt flats are, making this clip even more mesmerising.
Bridget said: ‘The Danakil Depression is one of the hottest and lowest locations on the planet.
‘The pool was minus 127 metres below sea level and was very, very salty.

‘The area is also dangerous due to bandits from Eritrea.’
She added: ‘We had to have security personnel on our car as well as a guide, but they could not speak English well.’
The Danakil Depression was formed from the divergence of three tectonic plates in the Horn of Africa.
The multi-coloured volcanic landscape is popular with tourists who also visit the area to see the huge green and yellow acid lakes.
