Footage shows moment police take down a shooter in Idaho

  • Six officers shot at Benjamin C. Barnes, 42, after he killed a dog in Idaho hills

This is the moment police killed a man who was threatening dogs and hikers with a gun.

Six officers shot at Benjamin C. Barnes, 42, after he killed a dog in the Boise Foothills of Idaho.

The Blaine County Prosecutor said officers were justified in killing him because they saw him ‘take an aggressive shooter’s stance and begin to discharge several rounds’ in their direction. 

Benjamin C. Barnes was shot and killed by police after threatening hikers and their pets 

The officers returned fire and killed Barnes with two direct hits in March this year.

Witnesses said the man was ‘particularly upset’ by people with dogs but his motive for killing a dog and shooting at officers is unclear.

There is a scramble as several bullets are fired in his direction before an officer shouts ‘he’s down.’

Police say Barnes threatened multiple people and their pets with a gun before they shot him on Sunday morning.

Boise Police Chief Bill Bones told KTVB a hiker’s dog was shot and killed before the confrontation unfolded.

He had a minimal criminal record made up of misdemeanors.
