Lowe told reporters as he was leaving a police interview on Friday night  that he was exhausted but relieved that there were no injuries or fatalities.

He said: ‘I’m just happy everyone was ok. I’m happy I was able to be there for the kids and for the community.’

Portland police claimed that a staff member subdued the suspect near the school tennis courts but have released no other information. Lowe couldn’t immediately be reached for comment on Friday.

Police said no one was hurt and that there are no additional suspects. It is not known whether any shots were actually fired during the incident.

Parkrose School District tweeted earlier in the day: ‘Parkrose High School is currently in lockdown. Students are safe. Suspect in custody.

‘Parents, please do not come to the schools. Parkrose Middle School is on lockout due to its proximity to the High School. We will provide updates as they are available.’

They later claimed that students were being reunited with parents at the closed Kmart parking lot. They claimed that it may take one hour or more to safely release all students.

A parent claimed that students reported that the suspect, a fellow student, had brought a gun to the school with the intention of committing suicide. A source said the weapon that the suspect had was a shotgun.

Police have not yet released details about the suspect’s intentions or the weapon. A police spokesman said the suspect was being interviewed on Friday afternoon.

The spokesman declined to say whether the suspect is a student.

Multiple Parkrose students told The Oregonian that they were initially locked in their classrooms shortly after police responded.
