Football fans have gone wild on social media after two stunning nights of Champions League action this week.

Having been beaten 3-0 in the first leg by Barcelona, Liverpool staged a remarkable comeback as they thrashed the La Liga side 4-0 at Anfield on Tuesday night.

Tottenham also overturned a 3-0 deficit to qualify for the Champions League final on Wednesday thanks to Lucas Moura’s 96th minute winner.

Ex-Liverpool and Tottenham striker Peter Crouch posted on Twitter: ‘Has the Champions League always been this stressful?’ 

Someone else posted a picture of former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra dancing and quoted his favourite catchphrase saying: ‘What a crazy week of football! I love this game!’ 

Another person posted a photo of Family Guy character Stewie and said: ‘Football crazy.’

One person posted a GIF of a scene from gladiator and said: ‘Football is too crazy! How can you not love this game!’

The GIFs kept on coming as someone else said: ‘This whole week of football has been mad.’

Someone posted a GIF of a Simpsons character in response to Spurs’ win and said: ‘Still cant quite believe it…..i will see MY team in a Champions league final……amazing!!!’

Another person added a photo of a group of people gathering for a funeral and jokingly said: ‘Our heart goes out to non football fans around the globe and their families for not witnessing this week of insanity.’

The week also started off with some exciting action in the Premier League as Vincent Kompany scored a dramatic late goal against Leicester for Manchester City on Monday.

Some posted a photo of Kompany celebrating as well as Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino crying and Liverpool players cheering with the caption: ‘What a week of football…’

People continued to be in amazement at what happened this week as one said: ‘Its been a amazing couple of nights in football. 

‘Champions league semis were absolutely brilliant. Even for a outsider not supporting any team its been awesome.’

Another person added: Wow. What an amazing few days of football! Respect to Spurs. What a final to look forward to!’

Even an Arsenal supporter had to accept the achievement that Spurs managed to pull off.

They said: ‘I’m an Arsenal fan and I hate spurs but I’m also a football lover and I have to say spurs were amazing last night. Respect to them.’

Someone else added: ‘Incredible. Never bought into European football, but this season I’ve been hooked. Best champions league there’s ever been class.’
