Footy star involved in car crash and is questioned by his club after ‘swerving and cutting off other vehicles’ during high-speed incident

Brayden Maynard has been questioned by his club after being involved in a car crash on the Mornington Peninsula on Monday morning.

According to 7Sport, the Collingwood star was seen ‘swerving and cutting off other cars’ while driving at around 6am on Monday morning.

‘Police have confirmed to 7NEWS that witnesses informed them a car matching the description of his was seen in the area swerving and cutting off other cars before 6am on the Mornington Peninsula Freeway,’ reporter Mitch Cleary said.

Maynard had spent the weekend at the beach with friends. The AFL club has confirmed no one was hurt in the incident.

‘Collingwood confirms Brayden Maynard was involved in a very minor car accident earlier this morning,’ the statement said.

‘Importantly, no one was hurt. Brayden exchanged contact details with the other driver with only minor damage to the exterior of Brayden’s vehicle.’

Maynard has ben a key figure in the Pies’ recent success, playing 186 games since being drafted in 2014.

The 27-year-old was involved in a controversial incident during last year’s finals when he clattered into Melbourne rival Angus Brayshaw, causing a concussion.

He was cleared by the AFL Tribunal but the incident split the footy world, with some demanding a strong punishment.

As a result of the incident, the AFL are set to approve a rule change that will urge players to show greater care when leaving the ground to smother the ball.
