Footy star’s half-brother tragically dies after being ‘mowed down by a pizza delivery driver’

The young half-brother of Fremantle Dockers star Hayden Ballantyne has been hit and killed in tragic circumstances.

Brendan Ballantyne, 22, was walking home when he was allegedly struck by a pizza delivery driver in Perth’s south at about 9pm on Saturday evening.

The young father was thrown several metres on Ennis Avenue, Waikiki, and died at the scene.

Mr Ballantyne’s family said the young man was about to welcome a second child with his pregnant fiancee, Shaynea, due to give birth in the coming weeks. 

‘He was a very loved family member, engaged to be married soon, a father of a beautiful two-year-old with a baby girl on the way,’ the family said, 9 News reported.

‘He will be very missed, that’s all we wish to say.’

A friend has launched a GoFundMe page to raise money for the young family. 

‘I have started this page to relieve some financial stress off this young family, any donations big or small will be a massive help,’ the page said.

Police allege a 47-year-old man was behind the wheel of a Holden Aventura station wagon which fatally struck Mr Ballantyne. 

He is understood to have just finished a shift as a pizza delivery driver. 

The man has been charged with careless driving occasioning death and will appear at the Rockingham Magistrates Court on October 22.

There are no street lights on Ennis Avenue and the speed limit is 100km/h.
