A former ABC radio presenter has been arrested after he was allegedly caught by police with $600,000 worth of illegal drugs including cocaine, meth and MDMA following two hotel room raids.

Ashley Hall, 52, was a radio journalist who once presented major current affairs programs AM, PM and The World Today for the public broadcaster.

Hall, who resides in Burwood in Sydney, was taken into custody on Wednesday morning and charged by police with multiple drug offences.

He was refused bail and faced Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday.

Police conducted search warrants in two hotel rooms on Wentworth Street and Bond Street in Sydney shortly after Hall’s arrest.

Officers discovered 500 MDMA tablets, 100g of cocaine, 3.2kg of 1,4-butanediol, 700g of methylamphetamine, more than a 1kg of cannabis, and more than $70,000 cash during the raids which were all seized.

Police claimed the drugs have an estimated street value of $600,000. 

All items were seized to undergo forensic examination. 

Hall has been charged with 23 offences including eight counts of supply prohibited drug (indictable) less than commercial quantity, six counts of supplying a prohibited drug greater than or equal to commercial quantity, three counts of supply prohibited drug small quantity and two counts of supplying a prohibited drug greater than or equal to large commercial quantity.

He was also slapped with two counts of possession of prohibited drug, one count of supply prohibited drugs on an ongoing basis and knowingly deal with the proceeds of crime.

Hall was previously arrested for drug offences in December 2019 when police raided his Sydney CBD hotel room.

Detectives claimed they found a cache of ice, MDMA, cocaine, cannabis, LSD and Butyrolactone along with drug paraphernalia inside a Meriton Suites hotel room Hall had rented out for five nights.

Hall pleaded guilty to two counts of supplying a prohibited drug and four counts of drug possession.

He was convicted and sentenced to a 12-month community corrections order last year.
