Former Bachelorette couple Angie Kent and Carlin Sterritt FINALLY confirm their split

Angie Kent and Carlin Sterritt have confirmed their split after weeks of rumours.

The former couple, who met on last year’s season of The Bachelorette, took to their respective Instagram accounts on Wednesday to announce the news.

‘We have not wanted to confirm until this point because there have been much bigger issues going on in the world and we’ve both been taking space to think about what we really want,’ Angie, 30, wrote in a post on Instagram Stories.

It’s officially over: Angie Kent and Carlin Sterritt have confirmed their split after weeks of rumours

‘Matters of the heart are extremely difficult and I’m sad to say that Carlin and I have broken up.’

Angie admitted there had been ‘a lot of speculation and rumours about the status of my relationship with Carlin’, after breakup reports emerged last month.

She said she wished her fitness trainer ex ‘nothing but the best’, and apologised to the fans who were invested in their TV romance.

‘I appreciate everyone’s concern and the investment that many of you made into the show and our story, but this is real life and we both need privacy and time to heal,’ she continued.

‘I just want to put the rumours to bed and to clarify so that questions stop.

‘Please remember we are both human beings like everyone else, so be kind if you do choose to leave comments or messages. Words can be very hurtful – and compound already very difficult times.’

Angie finished the post by stating that she wouldn’t be ‘making any further comments or responding to questions at this stage’.

In a series of videos posted to his Instagram Stories on Wednesday, Carlin, 31, also confirmed the split.

Calling it ‘a difficult one to talk about’, Carlin said his breakup from Angie had been ‘hard’.

‘It is true that Angie and I have gone our separate ways, but it’s for the best for us individually, and simply just wanting the best for her and wanting the best for me,’ he explained.

Carlin added ‘being the best version of yourself is very important’, and admitted the split had taken a toll on his mental health.

‘As some people already knew from previous posts, my mental health had taken a bit of a left turn,’ he confessed.

‘I just simply wasn’t the best version of myself or simply able to give the best version of me to Angie.’

He said he wished the former Gogglebox star well, and urged his fans to ‘please be kind’.

‘Everyone is battling something that you may never understand or even see. We don’t put everything in our lives on social media,’ he continued.

‘We put the five per cent up that we want other people to see. There’s always other stuff going on, so please think about that.’

Like Angie, Carlin said he wouldn’t be making any other comments regarding the couple’s split, and urged fans to focus on the bigger issues currently plaguing the world.

‘It’s kind of a shame that we even have to make an announcement about our relationship, because truth be told, no one else even has to do this in their life,’ he added.

Getting tearful, Carlin finished: ‘I will sign off with just saying, I want nothing but love and happiness for Angie, and I truly do mean that, and she knows that.

‘And I know that she wants that for me as well. So, it’s just time to focus on me.’

Rumours first emerged the couple had split early last month, but speaking to Daily Mail Australia at the time, Carlin labelled breakup rumours ‘silly’.

‘It’s silly. Angie is just visiting home for a bit to change things up,’ Carlin said at the time.

He added: ‘We’ve been in each other’s pockets enough over the past few months and family is important.’

But just days later, the couple unfollowed each other on Instagram, before Angie then blamed it on a ‘glitch’.

She later refused to confirm or deny reports of a split, commenting on Instagram: ‘Leave it. If you don’t know, you don’t know.’

‘Everyone got their happy ending when the show was on,’ she added.

‘Now it’s no one’s business. It’s my real life. So best people stay out of it unless they know for real what someone is going through.’

In mid-June, Angie celebrated her one-year anniversary since appearing on The Bachelorette, but refused to mention Carlin.

‘I can not believe it is exactly ONE year ago today I stood in the freezing cold, in the highest shoes and fanciest dress I had ever worn,’ she wrote on Instagram.

‘Meeting and chatting with @osher_gunsberg about the most insane and magical adventure I was about to embark on @bacheloretteau ONE WHOLE YEAR!’

In late June, Angie and Carlin unfollowed each other on Instagram once again, after earlier re-following each other.

The last time Carlin and Angie featured on each other’s Instagram pages was in May, with both sharing individual selfies since then.

After meeting on The Bachelorette in June last year, Angie left viewers reeling after picking Carlin over fan favourite Timm Hanly in the finale.
