Former BBC EastEnders star Ashvin Luximon who played Asif Malik dies from aneurysm aged 38 

Former Eastenders star Ashvin Luximon has died from an aneurysm at the age of 38, his family has confirmed.

He passed away on July 23 of this year, with the funeral taking place on August 11. 

Luximon is best known for playing Asif Malik in the BBC drama, a role he portrayed from September 1999 to October 2003, appearing in 146 episodes.

His family has since set up a tribute page in which they are raising money for charity in his name. 

They said in a statement: ‘This site is a tribute to Ash, who passed on the 23rd July 2022 due to a aneurysm.

‘Ash’s unexpected passing has hit us all hard, but we want to take the time to remember his larger than life spirit.

‘Ash’ played a school friend of Martin Fowler in the drama, with whom he got into trouble for vandalism and shoplifting

‘He loved and was loved by so many. He sang a mean karaoke tune and had a voice loud enough to hear from space! He brought laughter and the best cuddles.’ 

‘Please use this space to share thoughts, photos and memories. Please be respectful. 

‘As a family we would like to ask anyone who would have made a floral tribute to instead donate to our chosen charities, the NSPCC (Ash was the ultimate Uncle) and Andy’s Man Club ( a charity aimed at helping men talk).

‘He loved you.’ 

At the star’s funeral, his family asked guests to wear bright colours, as it was an event to ‘celebrate Ash’s life.’ 

In a donation tribute on the site, Ashvin’s parents wrote: ‘Our darling son we love you so much. Have fun with the angels.’

A family friend wrote: ‘Our deepest sympathy for your loss. May the happy memories of Ashvin give you peace and comfort during this challenging and painful time. Thinking of you all.’

Another tribute read: ‘Rest in peace dear, you will remain in our heart. Big kisses, lots of love.’

A close friend added: ‘You and my brother were like joined to hip, so like an adopted brother to me and like a son to our family.

‘Always happy to us, giggling and joking. Being a part of the special times we shared. 

‘Always cuddling my daughters and being the Uncle Ash!! You certainly had the biggest heart and loved by so many. 

‘You will be sorely missed but your spirit and legacy will always be with us. Shine bright with the stars and keep making everyone laugh up there. 

‘We will miss you so much.’

Another said: ‘I will love you forever.’ 

Ashvin grew up in Enfield, North London, before attending Bowden’s Theatre School.

He attended Chase Community School, but left school before taking his GCSEs to pursue an acting career. 

The Enfield-born TV star also appeared in promotional videos for bus safety and British Airways and his other TV appearances include Grange Hill and Hope and Glory.

He last appeared in Eastenders in October 2003 after he passed his A-Levels and went off to university.
