Former professional boxing champion Victor Ortiz has been arrested and charged with rape and sexual assault by authorities in southern California, it has been reported.

Ortiz, the onetime WBC welterweight title holder, surrendered to authorities to Oxnard on Tuesday.

The 31-year-old, who has ventured into acting with appearances in films like Expendables 3 and Southpaw, was charged on Monday by the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office.

Ortiz faces three felony sexual assault charges, including forcible rape, forcible oral copulation, and forcible digital penetration, TMZ reported.

Oxnard police said Ortiz turned himself in to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office East Valley station just before 3pm local time on Tuesday.

According to court records, authorities launched an investigation on March 19 when a woman contacted police to file a complaint about a sexual assault.

Police identified Ortiz as a suspect on that date, according to Oxnard police Commander Sharon Giles.

Ortiz’s bail was set at $100,000.

He was due to fight a welterweight bout against two-time world title challenger John Molina in Ontario, California this Sunday, according to ESPN.

Ortiz, who has a boxing record of 32-6-3, including 25 knockouts, is best known in the sports world for losing the world championship to Floyd Mayweather in a fourth-round knockout in 2011.

He has had a history of run-ins with the law. In 2016, he was cited for driving under the influence.

In 2015, he was arrested for allegedly assaulting a man at a Kenny Chesney concert at the Rose Bowl.

Ortiz has also appeared on ABC’s popular show Dancing With The Stars.
