Jason De Lisle, a former champion boxer who has gone toe to toe with the likes of Danny Green and Clinton Woods, is now facing a different type of opponent – the same cancer that took his father at the age of 36.

Mr De Lisle, nicknamed ‘The Nailer,’ fought for the IBF light-heavyweight title during his successful professional boxing career that lasted between 2000 and 2006 and resulted in 18 wins out of 26 matches.

‘I’m always healthy,’ he told nine.com.au.

‘I train people in the morning, and go to work eight hours as a chippy and train after.’

It wasn’t until after returning from a surfing trip to Indonesia when Mr De Lisle was walking up some stairs that he noticed something was not quite right.

‘I went to the doctors and got a blood test, then to the specialist for a colonoscopy.’

The 45-year-old is now undergoing chemotherapy after surgery to remove a 90cm tumour in his colon.

Parts of his spleen, pancreas, and stomach were also taken out during the surgery to stop the disease spreading.

Mr De Lisle remains hopeful about a recovery and friends and the boxing community have rallied behind him, even starting Go Fund Me campaign, to support the boxer in the biggest fight of his life.
