French hotelier Serge Trigano and his sons Jeremie and Benjamin are due to open Mama Shelter in Hackney next week.

Serge’s father Gilbert was a pioneer of Club Med following its launch 69 years ago, which during its seventies heyday, was known for its mantra of ‘sun, sea and sex’.

Mama Shelter, which first opened up in Paris in 2008, has the same pleasure-seeking ideals as the old Club Med days, Mr Trigano says.

The 195-room hotel will boast two karaoke rooms and giant board games, as well as cartoon masks and ‘ethical’ porn in every room.

Mr Trigano, who was ousted from Club Med in 2007 when it was taken over by a Chinese company, told the Evening Standard: ‘We don’t sell rooms, we don’t sell food, we sell happiness.

‘We live in a crazy world that is being run by crazy people everywhere you turn, there seem to be so many reasons to be afraid, including Brexit.

‘My dream is that if you come to Mama Shelter you can forget about it all — even if it’s just for one night.’

Club Med’s villages were notorious for its over-18 all-inclusive resorts, which French singer Serge Gainsbourg referenced in his song Sea, Sex and Sun.

They failed to attract Brits however, who only made up five per cent of its customers, and were often considered ‘too reserved’.

The new owners are more focused on family holidays, with week-long breaks priced at as much as £10,000.

Mama Shelter, meanwhile, has locations across France and four other countries, with the Triganos previously considering Trocodero or Shoreditch for its first UK location.

But its newest location, just down the road from Cambridge Heath Tube station, is more off the beaten track, with rooms starting from £99 each.

With its slogan ‘Come to Mama!’, the website reads: ‘More than simply rooms or restaurants, Mama Shelter is a living and meeting space, a true urban refuge that’s not just beautiful, modern and lively but also popular, friendly and sexy.

‘Curl up on our sofas and savour our sharing plates, enjoy a drink and relax, you can sleep like a baby… Mama takes care of everything!’
